Having a rate as well as the raw numbers allows comparisons for the first time to other population groups at risk, such as women and heterosexual men.

We're not sure that those markers exist, and if they do, we're not sure that everyone who is homosexual with have them, and if all homosexuals have them, these markers could exist in a virtually infinite combination. Now, there might be some kind of genetic markers for pre-disposition, but from studies of identical twins, what APPEARS to be genetic really seems to me to be suggestion that there must be something going on inside the womb. Some kind of chemical trigger or some other in utero event. Otherwise, while the concordance is much higher among identical twins than in their siblings, we'd expect to find nearly 100% concordance if the causative factor were genetic.
