A friend is someone you can talk to without fear of judgement or having your words twisted and used against you.
There are no real friendships in Scientology. This is because is is impossible to talk about anything more meaningful than the weather.
Let us look at what is off limits.
1) Talk of friends or anything resembling gossip. This is always regarded as suppressive no matter how harmless.
2) Bad news of any kind. This may include problems with other people or it may involve problems with life in general. The answer is always the same. The scientologist should not be discussing it with their friend but should look up the references instead. Anything else is verbal tech.
3) Politics, economics or most technology. These issues have already been decided by LRH.
4) Personal feelings.
5) Personal thoughts or observations. This is verbal tech.
6) Money.
7) Love and sex (no, no, no)
They CANNOT discuss their personal lives. Anything they say may become a big issue for some Scientologist further up the bridge. They may discuss petty likes and dislikes such as favorite foods but nothing more. Admitting that we are attracted to another person would almost always be an ethics offence.
They CANNOT discuss their plans except for their plans to take more courses. This is because all such talk must be done in the framework of admin scales and ethics conditions. Use these terms and your talk becomes meaningless. i.e 'I must get out of Danger on the First Dynamic'.
They cannot discuss other people. They cannot discuss things that go wrong or the past. This would amount to discussing ones case. They cannot even discuss Scientology- this would be verbal tech.
They cannot discuss much at all. Scientology not only isolates the individual from the outside world- it also isolates him within Scientology. This makes it far easier to control people

I noticed that when I tried to talk to Barbara Schwarz via email.

Barbara claims she needs no friends and she wants no friends. She gets downright hostile when you say you want to be her friend.

Barbara considers any discussion of problems or fears suppressive.

Psychology is a prime example. Any talk of psychology is downright suppressive. "Psych" drugs are even more verbotten.
> 4) Personal feelings.
Barbara Schwarz will never admit she likes me because this would be showing her personal feelings in public and that's strictly against Scientology where the only thing one is allowed to like is Scientology itself.
> 5) Personal thoughts or observations. This is verbal tech.
I have noticed that Barbara never posts personal thoughts or observations. She just repeats the Scientology propanda over and over. She claims to be versed in science but science fiction is what she spews. Like father like daughter, I suppose.
> 6) Money.
The average, run-of-the-mill Scientologist has no money of their own so what's to discuss. The staffers and the celebrities have money but they don't discuss their ill-gotten gains out of fear of the IRS.
> 7) Love and sex (no, no, no)
Barbara Schwarz seems to go into seizures at the mere mention of sexual activities. She practically suffered a coronary when I photoshopped a photo of a lovely, bikini-clad model in the doorway of her little log cabin. She took down her web page where she posted some entirely clothed photos of herself just because they showed a little leg. I think Scientology makes women frigid as evidenced by Claire Swazey's preoccupation with clitoral vibrators.

This is very true. Blackmail seems to be among their major concerns. Since they so readily engage in blackmail they think if they had any friends they would do the same so they run and hide from friends who would like to be on their side.

That is how it was under L. Ron Hubbard. Much of what he wrote was stolen or replace with other text. But something is still in available. L. Ron Hubbard said that the day we can trust each other will be peace on Earth.
That says it all.
If you think there are no friendships in the orgs, then blame it on those who changed Scientology.
But in defense of Scientologists, what you say that they did not do, they did tell me.
Many told me what they feel, spoke about politics, society, technology, observations, personal feelings, love...
Perhaps it is you why they don't open up. But in or out of Scientology, people tell me their stories all the time.

People who were in Scientology long time tell me the social situation worstened over time. It is now completely inhuman but sounded quite fun at one time.

Yah, Right! Is that why you sent so many emails?

Rest of the truth ignored because poor Barbara has no way to refute them. She has neither the intelligence not the verbal skills. She totally lacks logic circuits in what passes for her brain. She's got a head full of kooky ideas that give her a warped view of reality. She lacks ethics and integrity. She's too busy fair-gaming those who try to befriend her. She's her own worse enemy.
This is what Scientology does to people. It turns them into their own worst enemy. Of course they cannot get away from themselves. There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. Their only plausible escape is to go nuts or somehow come up with the strength to get away from Scientology. This is doubly difficult as the majority of Scientology teachings involve turning the individual's attention onto him or herself. Isolating the self from everybody and everything except Scientology. This is the creation of drones, mind-numbed robots who are just so many captive slaves.

L. Ron Hubbard was great friend to anybody and true Scientologists are great friends to others.
If things are not like this in the orgs, it is not Scientology but something else than took over.
However, being a good friend does not mean that a person can't chose her friends and a woman has to befriend her stalker and defamer.
I am picky with my friends. I just want true and smart friends.
